Stephen Warde Anderson

Artist's reception: Sept. 8, 1-4pm
Stephen Warde Anderson is a self-taught artist from Illinois whose paintings depict whimsical worlds inhabited by fairies, mermaids, aliens, historical figures and glamorous ladies. Executed in a style best described as naive classicism, Anderson uses bright color, strong line, stylized formal composition, and a mix of fantasy and social comment to create an ingenuous romanticism free of parody or irony.                                                                                                                                                                                                     Stephen Anderson has had shows in New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and was profiled in Rawvision Magazine from London, England. His work is in the Roger Brown Study Collection of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Columbus Museum of Art as well as in the Smithsonian and the American Folk Art Museum NY. He is the subject of a documentary "Fantasy Tableau" (available on Vimeo) by film maker Kate Balsley.
