Yainara Garcia Rousseaux

Havana, 1997
Yainara was born into a very loving family who provided her with all the care she needed as she had been diagnosed with infantile cerebral palsy. At age 20 she began drawing animals and tiny people in patterns that are almost abstract. She is very passionate about her work and takes several weeks to complete the larger pieces.

Her trips to the zoo, the aquarium, the botanical garden, places she adores and that her mother takes her to visit, may be the origin of these curious communities. Her creations are the result of hours of self-absorption in which she seems to travel to other worlds, to travel through them calmly, and bring them back to the space of paper.

Yainara’s work has been shown in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Cuba and the USA.
